Senecio radican

String of Bananas is an easy to grow succulent whose striking feature, as the name suggests, is the juicy leaves that are shaped like bananas.

Its habit makes for a perfect hanging plant, with new leaves growing on the end of trails, just like the ones we have in our macrame hangers.

String of Bananas is a hardy plant that tolerates most conditions. With a few simple steps you’ll be able to help yours thrive.

String of Bananas Care Tips

Place in a well lit position, but away from draughts. It can tolerate full sun, but best to avoid late afternoon summer sun which may burn the leaves and dry the plant out quickly.

It can handle extended periods without watering, but look to give your plant a good drink every week or two in summer. Reduce to every two to fours weeks in winter. Make sure the soil has dried out between drinks by sticking your finger a few centimetres into the soil to see if it’s dry.

In the spring you can also feed with a diluted fertiliser every few feeds.

You can also prune the ends to encourage new shoots and bushier growth.
